COURSE 2: USING AI FOR SCREENWRITING

Course 2 offers an immersive experience into AI’s role in screenwriting, blending traditional techniques with cutting-edge AI tools. Students will learn foundational screenplay writing elements of theme, plot character and classic structures like the Hero’s Journey and Save the Cat and how AI can facilitate and enhance these storytelling frameworks.

The class will address the ethical considerations of AI in writing, evaluating its role as a collaborator versus creator. We’ll explore AI’s capabilities in generating story elements and refining loglines, synopses, and beat sheets while maintaining the human touch that defines compelling narratives.

Acknowledging AI’s limitations, especially in long form writing, we’ll dissect challenges such as sustaining a consistent voice and character development over longer works. Conversely, the course will demonstrate AI’s proficiency in scripting short forms, particularly for non-narrative content and commercials, where brevity and clarity are paramount.

Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to critically assess the value AI brings to their work, empowering them to make informed decisions about when and how to incorporate AI into their screenwriting practice. Our objective is to foster a learning environment where AI is viewed as an asset that enhances and extends the screenwriter’s craft, ultimately contributing to their development as adept and versatile writers in the digital age.

By the end of the course, students will be adept at integrating AI into their screenwriting process, using it to complement traditional storytelling techniques and enrich their creative expression.
